Microsoft Search
An enterprise search platform for staff documents, pages and tools across UQ’s Microsoft environment.
Microsoft Search is a fast, secure way to find work-related content across UQ’s Microsoft 365 suite including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive and more. It delivers relevant results based on your UQ access and recent activity, helping you find what you need quickly.
Access Microsoft Search
Microsoft Search is available now. You can start using it immediately.
You can access it via:
- The Search tab in the Microsoft 365 Copilot panel (left side panel in your browser or Copilot app), or
- Directly via the link: https://m365.cloud.microsoft/search/.
We recommend bookmarking this link or setting it as your default search engine for UQ-related queries.
Please note, there is also a search function in Microsoft Teams and the web versions of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint that appears to work in a similar way. These search results return relevant results for these apps. Microsoft Search will ultimately be the most comprehensive place to search across the whole UQ Microsoft 365 environment, so it is best to start using it directly.
What can you see in Microsoft Search?
Search results are personalised and secure. You’ll only see information you already have permission to access, such as:
- Files you created or that were shared with you
- Content from SharePoint sites and Teams you belong to
- Public staff-wide UQ content like HR forms and policies.
You will not see:
- Other people’s private or restricted content
- Anything from outside your Microsoft access permissions
This ensures information is surfaced securely and appropriately.
Copilot Chat looks very similar, what is the difference between the two?
You’ll see both Search and Chat listed under the M365 Copilot heading, but they are separate tools:
Tool | What it does |
---|---|
Microsoft Search | Finds UQ files, forms, chats, and intranet pages you have access to. |
Copilot Chat | Allows you to talk to an AI chatbot using natural language to request help with tasks such as summarising, generating, or explaining information. |
